The LA Lakers decided to go after LeBron James in 2018 to see if they can change their fortunes and turn things around. They succeeded in getting King James on board but failed when it came to making the playoffs. The failure cost head coach Luke Walton his job and also saw Magic Johnson step down from his role as president.
The Lakers wasted no time in making changes and preparing for the 2019-2020 season. They decided to hire Frank Vogel as the new head coach and give him the responsibility of leading a fightback along with LeBron James.
The 45 year old new head coach of the Lakers has worked extensively with the Indiana Pacers from 2010 to 2016 and then from 2016 to 2018 with Orlando Magic. His record isn’t all that impressive as the stats show a total of 595 games winning 304 and losing 291. While he does have extensive experience, he will have his hands full as he looks to work with a bunch of bruised egos and the bigger than life personality of King James.

The Lakers were expected to get the 11th overall NBA Draft Lottery pick but things changed after they jumped all the way to fourth place. They now have the chance to go after some of the best players in the league including Pelicans star Anthony Davis whom they tried to secure earlier this season.
The Lakers and Lebron James are very keen to get Davis on board as they believe he will be the perfect partner to James and will strengthen the core team. The Lakers also have the option of going after other players including Kyrie Irving who hasn’t confirmed if he will continue with the Boston Celtics.
General Manager Rob Pelinka was very happy to see the Lakers get the overall fourth pick as it increased the possibility of the Lakers making it to the playoffs next season and ranking within the top four teams.
In a statement, Pelinka said
This is a powerful asset for us. We owe a commitment to our fans to have an outstanding season next year. What this does is it gives us the ability to either select an impact player at No.4 or possibly use this as an extremely valuable asset in trade.
