Aussie tennis player Nick Kyrgios has a reputation for being a hot head and someone who causes controversy whenever and wherever he plays.
The 24 year tennis pro from Canberra took on the number third seed Rafael Nadal and put up a great fight against the Spaniard who has won 18 grand slams.
Nick Kyrgios ended up on the losing side 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (5) 7-6 (3) and took out his frustration by acting up and losing his cool throughout the match.
His antics on court provided tennis fans entertainment but Rafael Nadal was not impressed as Kyrgios deliberately hit a forehand at Nadal that he had to defend or risk being hit.
Tennis is not a combat sport and one shouldn’t worry about getting injured by their opponent. However, when you play someone who is as volatile as Nick Kyrgios, you have to expect the unexpected as Nadal found out.
During his post-match interview, Nadal stated that he was concerned about the way Kyrgios behaved. The veteran tennis pro said that while he wasn’t concerned for his safety, he was really concerned over the fact that the ball traveling at such a speed could hit anyone in the crowd, the match referee or the linesmen.
Nadal said that as a professional player he understood that hitting the ball unnecessarily at an opponent could have consequences as the ball could go anywhere and end up damaging someone’s face or injuring someone’s eyes.
Nadal will look to put this match behind him and focus on his third round opponent Jo-Wilfried Tsonga who he will play on July 6.
During his post-match interview, the Aussie player refused to apologize to Nadal and justified his actions with a very strange explanation. Kyrgios said there was no need to apologize to Nadal because he had already won 18 grand slams and made a lot of money in his career.

Kyrgios said he had no concerns with Nadal taking a ball to the chest as it would do him no harm. He not only took out his frustration on Nadal but went on to call the chair umpire a disgrace during the match. It will be interesting to see what action the ITF takes against him!
While some have compared his outbursts to that of John McEnroe in the past, McEnroe never tried to hurt anyone on the court!
