The UFC is just a few days away from creating a number of new records for UFC243 which takes place on 06 October at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, Australia.
The stadium is expected to hold up to 60,000 fans and the UFC as already confirmed that more than 45,000 tickets have already been sold.
The highest attendance that the UFC has recorded in its history till date was a little over 56,000 fans who packed Marvel Stadium in Nov 2015 to witness Ronda Rousey vs. Holly Holm.
This time around the UFC is expecting a sell-out crowd as the card is headlined by two a Nigerian born Kiwi in Israel ‘The Last Stylebender’ Adesanaya and a Kiwi born Australian in Robert Whittaker.
UFC – Ultimate Fighting Championship
Whittaker is the current UFC Middleweight champion and Adesanaya is the interim middleweight champion. The two will headline UFC243 in a 5 round bout to unify the belts and find out who is the undisputed champion in the middleweight division.
This is the most anticipated fight of the year and will turn out to be the biggest combat sports fight event in Oceania. Robert Whittaker goes in as the betting favourite but not by much as the defending champion hasn’t fought in some time.
The last time he was scheduled to fight was at UFC234 which took place at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne. However, Whittaker pulled out less than 48 hours before the fight due to a serious perforated hernia that required immediate surgery. This time around fight fans are keeping their fingers cross to ensure that both fighters make weight and are healthy to do battle in the Octagon.
Aussie and Kiwi fans who show up to Marvel Stadium will have themselves a good time as the UFC has put together some good fights, especially the fights on the main card. Fans who looking forward to see Holly Holm fight Raquel Pennington will be disappointed as Holm pulled out due to injury earlier this week.
However the co-main event is a cracker as Kiwi Dan Hooker takes on Al Iaquinta in what could very well turn out to be a fight of the night or performance of the night bout. Aussie Heavyweight Tai Tuivasa who is on a two fight losing streak is in need of a win and will have a tough challenge against Sergey Spivak.
