In a very unusual and unexpected move the Chief Executive of the William Hill betting company has spoken out in regards to the number of betting shops which are opening up on high streets in towns and cities across the UK, and it would appear he is adding his name to those people alarmed by just how many betting shops are being given the green light to open.
There has been a lot of discussion recently in regards to Fixed Odds Betting Terminals (FOBT’s) which there are up to four of in each betting shop, and it has been alleged that these machines are causing people with gambling problems to suffer financial hardship as they have been said to be too addictive to play.
The Chief Executive of William Hill is a man call Ralph Topping and he has said that he does back suggestions and proposals that would limit the amount of new betting shops that can be opened in some towns and cities as they may be putting some people at risk of gambling addiction.
However, many critics are suggesting that he is only saying this as William Hill have already got a huge number of betting shops across the UK, and by him speaking out and suggesting that councils throughout the UK should put limits on just how many new betting shops if at all any new betting shops should be allowed to open up, he is simply protecting those shops his company already operates!
Some people are saying that it is only a matter of time before new legislation will be implemented in regards to not only how many betting shops can be located in any one town or city and there are to be some changes in regards to how Fixed Odds Betting Terminals work in regards to the maximum stake permitted on each game and the number of games a player of these machines can play per hour.
However, it does appear strange that no one is calling for restrictions in regards to online casinos which unlike betting shops are open 24 hours a day and permit customers to place wagers far higher and much quicker than can be placed on these Fixed Odds Betting Terminals.
We will of course keep you updated with this story and will let you know should any other Chief Executive come out and call for changes in regards to new betting shops licenses!
