The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) started 2021 in Fight Island, Abu Dhabi with three back to back fight cards. The idea was to get in a number of international fights before moving back to Las Vegas.
The UFC will host their first fight night card on Feb 6 at the UFC Apex Center in Las Vegas. This card will be headlined by Alistair Overeem vs. Alexander Volkov while the co-main event will see Frankie Edgar taken on Cory Sandhagen.

Alistair Overeem vs. Alexander Volkov
Alistair Overeem has made it clear on his social media that he is making up more run for the only championship that has eluded him in this 20 plus years of fighting. Reem who is now 40 has confirmed that if he wins the UFC heavyweight championship he will retire. A win over the dangerous Russian giant Volkov will take Reem closer to his second UFC heavyweight title shot.
The Russian is confident that he will be able to stop the Reem and not need 5 rounds to get the job done. However, Volkov’s last fight was a loss to Curtis Blaydes who is also a training partner for the Reem. Expect the Reem to try and take Volkov to the ground and win by strikes. Given the fact that Reem looked so good in 2020, it might not be a bad idea to bet on him.
Current odds: Alistair Overeem (+163) / Alexander Volkov (-188)
Cory Sandhagen vs. Frankie Edgar
This is a fight between the veteran and the new generation of UFC fighters. Frankie Edgar is a huge underdog as Sandhagen is expected to have an easy win. Those odds don’t add up as Sandhagen’s last fight was a loss to Aljamain Sterling who dominated and submitted him on the ground.
Frankie Edgar has tremendous wrestling skills and will look to do what Sterling did. The big question is whether Sandhagen has improved his ground game. If the fight stays on the feet, Sandhagen should be able to win. If it goes to the ground, Edgar should have an advantage. Given Edgar’s experience, you might want to bet on him given the odds.
Current odds: Cory Sandhagen (-400) / Frankie Edgar (+330)
There are a number of good fights on both the prelims and main card. Some of the fights to watch out for include Michael Johnson (-200) vs. Clay Guida (+170), Marion Reneau (+170) vs. Macy Chiasson (-200) and Alexandre Pantoja (-140) vs. Manel Kape (+120).
