When India won the first two ODI games of the three match series against Sri Lanka, they experimented with their playing XI in the third ODI and ended up losing. They went back to their proper playing XI for the three match T20 series and tasted success immediately.
The first T20 between the two sides took place on Sunday night, July 26 at the R Premadasa stadium in Colombo. India went in with a strong T20 squad even though their main squad is currently in England waiting to play a five match test series.

Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to put India in. They had immediately success dismissing the dangerous Prithvi Shaw for a duck. Captain Shikhar Dhawan (46) and the talented Suryakumar Yadav (50) took India to a respectable total of 164.
Sri Lanka struggled right through their innings as they lost wickets at regular intervals and were bowled out for 126. The chief destroyers were Bhuvneshwar Kumar (4 wickets) and Deepak Chahar (2 wickets).
India is now 1-0 up in the series and will be keen on winning the second T20 and wrapping up the series. The second T20 takes place on July 27.
Sri Lanka Cricket
India once again starts as betting favorites with Bet365 for the second T20 and have odds of 3/10 while Sri Lanka are big underdogs with odds of 5/2. We expect India to win the second T20 provided they are willing to play the same playing XI as the first T20.
One of the reasons why Sri Lanka is struggling is because they are lacking in confidence. Their stand-in captain Dasun Shanaka is struggling with the bat and as a result he is also not bowling a lot. He sent down only one over and conceded 4 runs but was reluctant to bowl another one even though Akila Dananjaya was very expensive sending down 3 overs for 40 runs.
If Sri Lanka are going to challenge India in the second T20, D Shanaka needs to lead from the front. He needs to bowl more overs, be more aggressive with his captaincy and be willing to promote himself up the order and take charge of the innings.
We don’t expect India to tinker with their playing XI in the second T20 as they will want to make sure they win the next game and take a 2-0 series lead. Should they win the second T20 and win the series, they might tinker with their squad for the third and final T20 which is set to take place on 29 July.
