The All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club is all set to host another edition of Wimbledon as tennis players from around the world make their way to SW19.
The 2022 Wimbledon Grand Slam starts on 27 June and will finish on 10 July.
The 2021 edition of Wimbledon was surrounded by concerns of COVID-19 and the quarantine periods that players had to undergo upon arriving in the UK. Things have settled down in the UK and players no longer have concerns about flying to the UK and taking part in Wimbledon.

The All England Lawn Tennis Club received criticism after they announced in May 2022 that they were imposing a ban on Russian and Belarusian players from taking part at Wimbledon. The ban was imposed on Russian and Belarusian players due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and their on-going war which currently does not appear to have any end in sight.
The international tennis community felt that Russian and Belarusian players were being treated unfairly at Wimbledon for no fault of their own. Due to this, the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) and the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) decided to strip Wimbledon of ranking points as the ATP and WTA felt that Wimbledon was deliberately discriminating Russian and Belarusian players.
There were alleged discussions from some tennis players of boycotting Wimbledon due to the ban but that boycott never materialized as the top players like Novak Djokovic said that they were better ways to protect that taking an aggressive stance such as a boycott!
While 2022 Wimbledon will not have ranking points, most players will look past the rankings as Wimbledon has decided to up the total prize money awarded during the tournament to £40,350,000 which is a 15 percent increase when compared to Wimbledon 2021.
Wimbledon 2021 went off relatively smoothly given the concerns of COVID-19. The crowd was disappointed when Serena Williams injured herself during the second round of the tournament and had to pull out. The fans at SW19 were entertained to some great tennis, some controversies such as Benoit Paire getting served a code violate for a ‘lack of effort’ and Stefanos Tsitsipas being warned for getting coached by his dad while he was playing!
The men’s singles division turned out in predictable fashion as Novak Djokovic once again showcased his dominance and went on to beat Matteo Berrettin 6–7(4–7), 6–4, 6–4, 6–3.
The women’s single division saw Aussie Ashleigh Barty play a fantastic final and beat Karolína Plíšková 6–3, 6–7(4–7), 6–3 to win her first Wimbledon championship.
Our tennis experts take a look at the men’s singles and women’s singles division, discuss some of the top players who are in with a chance to win, examine the betting odds and share their predictions below.
Men’s Singles
Novak Djokovic – (125)
Matteo Berrettini – (550)
Rafael Nadal – (650)
Carlos Alcaraz – (800)
Andy Murray – (2500)
Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal have both confirmed that they will play at Wimbledon 2022 and it is very hard to look past either of these two champions when you decide to bet. The draw has also turned out well for both these tennis greats as they are on separate paths and will only meet if they get to the Championship finals.
Betonline.ag has Djokovic as the betting favorite as the Serbian has won Wimbledon 6 times and is the defending champion. Nadal is coming off a French Open championship win and will be full of confidence as he switches from clay to grass. Two other players that you need to watch out for include Italian Matteo Berrettini and the 19 year old Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz. Crowd favorite Andy Murray will also take part but the odds are not in his favour!
Prediction: Our tennis experts think Djokovic will win his 6th Wimbledon Grand Slam!
