The National Football League (NFL) has been hurt by the ‘National Anthem’ protests and the league has been trying its hardest to reach a compromise with the players to put things at rest.
However, it doesn’t look like the NFL is making a lot of headway as things got heated over the weekend during a game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Carolina Panthers.
Eric Reid who recently signed with the Panthers as safety was upset with Malcolm Jenkins who also plays as safety for the Eagles.
Both players were initially on the same side when it came to the National Anthem protests but they are no longer on the same page and that caused enough friction for both players to have to be separated as they were looking to hit it out.
The tension between the two former allies is alleged due to the fact that Malcolm Jenkins was looking to stop National Anthem protests in exchange for a donation of $90 million from the NFL to the Player’s Coalition – which Jenkins founded.
Jenkins reportedly reached out to players and asked them if they would be willing to stop their protests as the $90 million is a show of support from the NFL towards social injustice and this donation would be used to fund organizations that would help with the fight against social injustice.

Eric Reid isn’t willing to take the money from the league and is not happy that Jenkins is willing to stop all protests because of a $90 million donation. He is also upset over the fact that Jenkins decided to meet with the NFL by himself even though he agreed that when the meeting took place, other NFL players who supported the National Anthem protests would be in attendance.
In a statement, Reid said
Malcolm did text me this morning asking if we would be comfortable ending our demonstrations if the NFL made a donation. At that point, that was the last straw for me
Jenkins has also been accused of pushing out Colin Kaepernick from these meetings. It was Kaepernick who was the first player to take a knee and spearhead the National Anthem protests. Jenkins has denied the allegations that Reid has made against him and has preferred not to throw any shade at Reid.
