When it comes to Formula One royalty it does not get much bigger than Michael Schumacher.
The German F1 legend hasn’t been seen in public since his skiing accident in December 2013 which resulted in a brain injury that has put him out of action.
They say the apple does not fall far from the tree and that holds good for Mick Schumacher. He wants to follow in his father’s footsteps and pursue a career in Formula One.
That will have to wait for now as the 19 year old has recently been signed to Prema to race in the next season of Formula Two.
The F2 season is considered the main platform into F1 and the top teams always keep a close eye on who’s performed on the F2 circuit. The top three drivers for this season’s F2 – Alexander Albon, Lando Norris and George Russell have all been picked up by F1 teams to represent them in 2019.

Being the son of the legendary Michael Schumacher should automatically open a few doors for Mick but he isn’t taking anything the easy way. The younger Schumacher is already eligibly to race for F1 as he won the F3 European Championship in 2018. His record on the F3 circuit had 8 wins, 7 pole finishes and 14 podium finishes. However, Schumacher is not in a rush to step into the big league and wants to do it one step at a time.
In a statement, Rene Rosin, Prema Team Manager said
This series is not an easy one due to its learning curve for rookies, especially with the introduction of the new car, but we think that Mick has the maturity and skills needed to make it. He is an extremely talented and dedicated racer, working with him is a pleasure and we can’t wait to begin this adventure together
It is not always easy to follow in the footsteps of your father, especially one as great as Michael Schumacher. Five time F1 Champion Lewis Hamilton heaped praise on the young man and said he was a hundred percent confident that F1 will soon have another Schumacher back on the track.
It would have undoubtedly given Michael Schumacher great joy to see his son follow in his footsteps and do so well at the age of 19. As of now, there are still no updates available on his health as the family continues to keep things private.
