The Golden State Warriors have received a bit of criticism from the media in recent times as former NBA players and analysts’ appeared to have discovered chinks in the NBA Champions and even went as far as to call them a dysfunctional team.
Whether those remarks were just to create a buzz in the media or whether they were true, the Warriors decided to silence their critics with a dominant performance over the Denver Nuggets. The Warriors won in convincing style 142-111 on Tuesday night to extend their winning stream to 5 games and take top spot on the NBA Western Conference points table.
The defending champions have proven to be unstoppable during the last few years because they played extremely well as a team. Unlike their former rivals the Cleveland Cavaliers who depended entirely on Lebron James, the Warriors counted on their All Stars to step up and deliver when it mattered.
MLG Highlights
The Warriors had a tremendous first quarter scoring 51 points to the Nuggets 38 points. They continued to widen the gap in the next two quarters and by then it was all over for the Denver Nuggets. Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson finished the night with 31 points each while Kevin Durant also had a great with scoring 27 points, 4 rebounds and 6 assists.
Draymond Green did his job with 13 assists and 6 rebounds while Quinn Cook played just 14 minutes but quickly scored 11 points. The fact that the Warriors are getting their act together as the playoffs approach is yet another sign that the defending champions could very well make it to another NBA Championship finals.
This season they suffered a few defeats as Stephen Curry was out for a few games and it took a bit of time for them to find their mojo. However, the Warriors have shown in the past that they can sometimes come off as beatable during the regular season and that is because they are ironing out chinks in their game and working on different strategies to prepare themselves for the playoffs.
Head Coach Steve Kerr has immense faith in his team and his biggest concern and challenge will be in keeping all of his players fit and injury free. If the Warriors play as they did on Tuesday night, there are very few teams in the division who could roll them over.
