India will start their five match test series against England this week.
The first test in Nottingham is set to start on August 04 and the Indians go in as heavy betting underdogs.
Will India be able to defy the bookmakers and start the series with a win or will England take advantage of home conditions and outplay India?

India have one of the best test teams in world cricket and are unbeatable when they play at home where the conditions favour the sub-continent batsmen and their spinners. Things are very different in England as the conditions favour swing bowling and scoring runs isn’t easy on wickets that offer both seam and bounce.
This is why India goes in with odds of 5/2 while England are betting favorites with odds of 13/8 with Bwin. What you also need to keep in mind for the first test is the possibility of a draw as the odds are currently at 11/8. When England and India play, you generally expect a result but we think this game can end up in a draw due to the weather.
The weather conditions in Nottingham don’t look great as there is rain predicted on all five days of this test. We don’t expect to lose a full day’s play but it is hard to predict the English weather. What we do know is that the overcast conditions should give England a bigger edge than India.
India definitely have the players who have the ability to win the game by themselves. Indian captain Virat Kohli is the best batsman in the squad and when he plays well, India do well. The other batsmen to watch out for include vice-captain Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara. The bowlers to watch out for are Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah.
England look a less formidable when vice-captain Ben Stokes is missing. Stokes pulled out of the series last week on the basis of “mental health” and it looks highly unlikely that he could play any role for the rest of the series.
This makes the job of England captain Joe Root a lot more difficult. Root along with the experienced Jos Butler are the two main batsmen in the squad. The bowling department looks very strong as England have the option of playing both James Anderson and Stuart Broad.
