Defending champions LA Lakers entered this NBA season as the betting favorites but they sure did not play like the champions.
They have a very average season this year winning 42 games and losing 30 to finish in 7th place on the Western Conference points table and just make it to the first round playoffs.
The also entered as betting favorites for the first round playoffs due to their star studded line-up which includes Lebron James and Anthony Davis (AD) who were instrumental in helping the Lakers in the 2020 NBA Championship.
The Lakers were pitted against the Phoenix Suns who finished in second place on the Western Conference points table with 51 wins and 21 losses.

Bettors who put money on the Lakers to win the first game lost out as the Suns showed some great fight and ended up on the winning side with a 99-90 scoreline. The performance from the Lakers was a big let-down and Anthony Davis took responsibility for his side’s loss.
Davis had a very poor game scoring just 13 points, with 7 rebounds and 3 blocks. AD said that if he continued to play how he did in the first game, the Lakers are not going to win any game or any series. AD ended up missing 11 out of his 16 field goal shots and it hurt the defending champs in the end. LeBron James also had an average game by his standards scoring 18 points with 10 assists and 7 rebounds.
MLG Highlights
The Lakers are confident they can turn things around and so are the bookmakers who have the Lakers as betting favorites with Betonline for Game 2 which takes place on May 25. The Lakers go in with odds of -105 while the Phoenix Suns as slight underdogs with odds of -115
Lakers fans will have to wait and see if James and AD had an off day in Game 1 and whether they will be able to bounce back and turn things around in Game 2. It is not going to be an easy task as the Suns have the momentum behind them and know that the pressure is currently on the Lakers.
Devin Booker and Deandre Ayton who scored 55 points between them, will once again key players that they Lakers will have to stop if they are going to win Game 2.
