Main Event

Charles Oliveira vs. Islam Makhachev

Technically the UFC lightweight belt is up for grabs as no one is the champion. However, unofficially Charles Oliveira is considered the champion by most UFC fans as he lost his belt at UFC 264 vs. Justin Gaethje as he missed weight by 1lbs and not because he lost the fight which he won.

Facing him will be the undefeated Dagestani fighter Islam Makhachev with former UFC lightweight champ Khabib Nurmagomedov in his corner. Makhachev enters this fight with odds of 1.55 while Oliveira is the underdog with odds of 2.56.

Those odds seems justified as Islam Makhachev has never lost in the UFC while Charles Oliveira has lost multiple times in the promotion. However both fighters have had a phenomenal run in recent years with Oliveira entering this fight with a 12 fight win stream and Makhachev coming in with a 11 fight win streak.

Charles Oliveira is considered by his peers as a jiu-jitsu wiz as he has the most submissions in the lightweight division. The Brazilian has also shown in his last couple of fights that his striking has improved significantly. He also has a good chin on him as he has shown us in the past that even if he gets rocked, he can quickly recover.

There are many MMA analysts who think that Islam Makhachev is even better than Khabib Nurmagomedov. They believe Makhachev is just as good on the ground as Khabib and definitely better in the striking department. To make the case even stronger for Makhachev, Khabib is coaching Makhachev and will be in his corner.

Makhachev has said that Oliveira’s past opponents did not capitalize when they knocked him down as they were afraid of going to the ground and getting submitted. Makhachev says he isn’t afraid of going to the ground with Oliveira and believes that he will finish Oliveira to become the new UFC champ.

Current odds: Charles Oliveira (+156) / Islam Makhachev (-181)

Prediction: We are going to put our money on Islam Makhachev to win by submission!

Other Exciting Fights

Aljamain Sterling vs. TJ Dillashaw

Aljamain Sterling will look to defend the UFC bantamweight championship against former champ TJ Dillashaw. Aljamain enters this fight as the betting favorite with odds of 1.55 while the challenger Dillashaw is the underdog with odds of 2.56.

Aljamain isn’t a great striker but is a great wrestler and will rely on his takedowns to win rounds and try and get the better of Dillashaw. While Aljamain’s striking isn’t his biggest strength, he can definitely stand and trade with Dillashaw and we expect him to do that in the first couple of rounds. However, Aljamain isn’t hiding his game plan as he has made it clear that he intends to take Dillashaw and see if he can get a submission.

Dillashaw is very keen to get his bantamweight belt back but knows he has a tough challenge ahead of him. The former champ returned after a 2 year drug related suspension and won by decision against Cory Sandhagen in his last fight. In his last fight, Dillashaw took a lot of damage and we wonder if he is 100 percent healthy for his title fight against Aljamain.

Dillashaw has a good stand-up game as his foot movement is unorthodox and he has quick hands. The big test for Dillashaw will be whether his take down defence will hold up against Aljamain. If Dillashaw does end up being taken down, he will have to quickly try and get to his feet or he could end up having a long night on his back.

Current odds: Aljamain Sterling (+156) / TJ Dillashaw (-181)

Prediction:We are going to back the champ Aljamain Sterling to win this UFC fight as we believe he is in great shape and will win by decision!

Petr Yan vs. Sean O’Malley

One of the most hyped fights on this card is former bantamweight champ Petr Yan against fan favorite Sean O’Malley. Yan goes in as a heavy betting favorite with odds of 1.36 while O’Malley is the underdog with odds of 3.35.

O’Malley hasn’t been really tested by top challengers as his last fight against Pedro Munhoz finished as no contest. However, O’Malley has KO power and could pull off a surprise win.

Current odds: Petr Yan (-275) / Sean O’Malley (+235)

Prediction: We are going to play it safe and back Petr Yan to win by stoppage.

Beneil Dariush vs. Mateusz Gamrot

Beneil Dariush was supposed to fight Islam Makhachev earlier but the fight fell through after Dariush was injured. Dariush will now fight the impressive Mateusz Gamrot and the winner could very well be the next title challenger at lightweight.

Gamrot goes in as the betting favorite with odds of 1.52 while Dariush is the underdog with odds of 2.65. While Dariush has a good stand-up game and a strong ground game, Gamrot is better in both departments.

Current odds: Beneil Dariush (+265) / Mateusz Gamrot (-190)

Prediction: The big difference between these two fighters is the cardio as Gamrot fights at a very high pace and we think this will overwhelm Dariush and give Gamrot the win!
