Brazilian jiu jitsu specialist Mackenzie Dern will fight Marina Rodriguez in a 5 round Main Event at the UFC Apex Center on October 9. This UFC Fight Night card isn’t getting as much attention as some of the other Fight Night cards because it does not have a lot of big names on it.
Hardcore MMA fans will appreciate the fight card as there are a number of great matchups which ends with a strawweight Main Event that could put the winner one fight away from a title fight.

This is a great matchup as the UFC is getting two of the best strawweights in the division with contrasting styles to battle it out. Rodriguez has phenomenal striking and has a decent ground game while Dern has improved significantly in her striking during her last two fights and is a submission specialist on the ground.
She goes in as the betting favorite with odds of 1.56 while Rodriguez has odds of 2.50. While Dern can submit anyone at any time once she gets them on the ground, Rodriguez has pretty good takedown defence. Rodriguez also has great hands and has the ability to finish the fight from strikes, which not all strawweights do.
We are going to go with the bookmakers here and back Dern to win because she has shown amazing heart in her last two fights and the 5 round Main Event should give her enough time to get a submission in.
Phil Hawes vs. Deron Winn
This fight starts off the Main Card and is one of the most exciting fights on the card. Hawes has great hands while Winn has great wrestling skills. Hawes goes in as a huge betting favorite with American bookies with odds of 1.31 while Winn is the underdog with odds of 3.65. We are going to back Hawes to win by KO or TKO.
Alexandr Romanov vs. Jared Vanderaa
This heavyweight fight is not getting the attention it deserves as it is on the prelims. Romanov has an unbeaten 14-0 record and has the ability to finish a fight on the feet as well as on the ground. He goes in as a big betting favorite with odds of 1.14 while Vanderaa is a massive underdog with odds of 6.0. We are going to back Romanov to win by submission.
