ArizonaArizona sports bettors are going to get more options to bet as two new operators have entered the state. The notable additions to the market are Penn National Gaming and PointsBet.

Penn National made a deal with Phoenix Raceway and PointsBet partnered up with the Yavapai-Apache Nation which runs the Cliff Castle Casino Hotel.

The announcement means that BetMGM is the only top sports betting operator that is currently without a local partner.

Additionally, the NHL Coyotes and NFL Cardinals are the only professional state teams that have no partner when it comes to offering sports betting in Arizona.

Caesars is already working with the Ak-Chin Indian Community while WynnBet has signed with the San Carlos Apache Tribe. Kindred have cut a deal with the Quechan Tribe. However, licensing is still up in the air as there are still multiple Native American tribes that do not have a betting partner. We don’t know as of how betting licenses will be given out and which tribes will miss out.

The state is currently hammering out betting regulations that will govern sports betting in the state. Arizona is currently looking at a September 9 launch after delaying it in 2020 which will open up the state to bet on the new NFL season.

Current gaming regulations state that there will be 10 sports betting licenses for retail and mobile wagering across the state. There will be an additional 10 betting licenses for local tribes. The gaming regulator need to clear things up with regards to how these licenses are going to be awarded.

Future Sports Betting Plans

The two new operators to the state have already announced some of their plans. Penn National is thinking of opening a retail sportsbook at Phoenix Raceway along with its Barstool Sportsbook mobile platform for mobile betting. The raceway is perfect since Penn has a partnership with NASCAR. This is now the third racing venue in the U.S with access to a sportsbook after Richmond Raceway and Martinsville Speedway, both of which have access thanks to WynnBet.

PointsBet is continuing its plans to spread out across the U.S and Arizona is the latest addition. The Australian sports betting operator already has a presence in 16 states and plans to expand even more. PointsBet USA CEO Johnny Aitken said he was very happy with the new deal with the Cliff Castle Casino Hotel. Considering PointsBet’s varied betting options, local sports bettors will be happy when it launches its sports betting platform.
