The Online betting firm, Bet365 has made some jurisdictional moves this month by announcing that they are no longer taking in new punters from China.
Instead of rather withdrawing from China, Bet365 has opted to apply a bit of brakes temporarily on accepting new customers from china. Sources state that the firm sent an email to the Chinese affiliates to pump down on the volume.
An affiliate member from Bet365 confirmed receiving a Chinese-language email stating that,
affiliates will no longer be able to refer new Chinese customers to Bet365 through tracking links.
It further went on to state that existing affiliates will continue to earn commission on existing customers but any new customers generated via these links will not be considered the affiliate’s customers.
Thje policy was made effective as from the 3rd of October 2014 just after the Guardian had published an article stating that china’s authorities were harsh on locals dealing with Bet365 affiliates.
Bet365’s spokesperson commented on the guardian report,
In the view of bet365, and its lawyers, Chinese law does not extend to the provision of services into China by gambling operators and service providers who themselves have no nexus with the territory. Any allegation of illegality on the part of Bet365 is therefore untrue.
