Summary
- UFC Fight Night card on Sep 16 will be headlined by a championship fight
- UFC flyweight champ Alexa Grasso will defend her belt against former champ Valentina Shevchenko
- Shevchenko is confident she will reclaim her belt and destroy Grasso
One of the biggest upsets in the UFC’s women’s division took place at UFC 285 when underdog Alexa Grasso surprised everyone and submitted the flyweight champ Valentina ‘bullet’ Shevchenko.
Grasso became the first female Mexican fighter in the UFC to win a UFC championship and she is determined to keep the belt in Mexico.
The UFC tends to have schedule title fights on its pay per view cards but decided to make an exception and have Grasso vs. Shevchenko on a regular fight night card. However, the timing of this fight night card is right on as it takes place on Sep 16 which is Día de la Independencia (Independence Day) in Mexico. This card will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Shevchenko has dominated the flyweight division and may have underestimated Grasso at UFC 285. Grasso and her team studied Shevchenko’s game really well and capitalized on one of her spinning kicks, which they used to catch her off-guard. Grasso used it to take her down and submit her by RNC.
Shevchenko wasted no time in calling for a rematch after her loss and given her dominance at flyweight. The UFC had no problem in scheduling an immediate rematch which was well deserved as Bullet was on a 9 fight win streak. Shevchenko goes into this fight angry and annoyed as she feels that everyone’s forgotten what she has accomplished at flyweight and are now on the Grasso hype train.
Shevchenko has promised to destroy Grasso and reclaim her belt to show that she is the queen of the flyweight division. The former champ says that she cannot understand why former champions claim that they felt relief when they lost the belt. Shevchenko says she feels even more pressure going into this fight as she needs to win and get her belt back.
The co-main event for this fight will be a banger in the welterweight division as betting dark horse and rising star Jack Della Maddalena will take on Kevin Holland.
