There were rumours floating around for months that Real Madrid head coach Zinedine Zidane was going to resign.
It turned out that those rumours were true as the Frenchman resigned after Real Madrid had a poor showing this season.
Real Madrid were prepared for Zidane’s exit and wasted no time in appointing Carlo Ancelotti as the new head coach.
Carlo Ancelotti is no stranger to Real Madrid as he coached the Los Blancos between 2013 and 2015 when Cristiano Ronaldo was part of the side. Ancelotti led Real Madrid to their tenth European title in 2014 and had a good relationship with club President Florentino Pérez.
There were rumours that Real Madrid might appoint Raúl González who is an ex-player and the current coach of their B team but Florentino Pérez preferred to bring back Carlo Ancelotti who resigned from Premier League club Everton.
Real Madrid
Cristiano Ronaldo sent Ancelotti a congratulatory text on his new appointment at Real Madrid and this has opened the door for speculation that Ronaldo is very keen to return to his former club. Ronaldo and Ancelotti enjoyed a good relationship when they were at Real Madrid and it appears that Ronaldo is now keen to leave Juventus and head back home.
Juventus did not have a great season in the Serie A and finished in 4th place on the points table. The club owners were not happy with the performance and fired manager Andrea Pirlo and re-signed Max Allegri. When Juventus also struggled to make the Champions League and it looked like Ronaldo was keen to move on.
Max Allegri worked with Ronaldo for one season at Juventus during 2019. While Ronaldo is a superstar, he can be very hard to manage. It is not clear at this time if Allegri is keen on keeping Ronaldo with the Bianconeri or is open to letting him go in exchange for two or more football stars who can be signed with Ronaldo’s purse.
There are just a handful of football clubs around the world who are able to afford to sign a player as expensive as Cristiano Ronaldo.
Real Madrid is one of the clubs that has the money to secure his services. Given that Carlo Ancelotti has a three year deal now with the Los Blancos, it is quite possible that Perez and Ancelotti might open the door for Ronaldo to return.
