UFC President Dana White continues to push the Power Slap League (PSL) amidst growing criticism from fans and UFC fighters.

The PSL has continued to gain a lot of attention in the last few weeks as clips of the competitors slapping each other and knocking each other unconscious do the rounds on social media.

PSL To Make Pay Per View Debut

The PSL’s pay per view (PPV) debut was initially delayed after TMZ leaked video footage of Dana White and his wife slapping each other in Cabo San Lucas during the holidays. There were rumours that the PSL could be cancelled as White slapping his wife was a black mark for the new PSL.

However the incident with Dana White was downplayed and the PSL is back on track to make its PPV debut in March. The first season of the PSL is set for 8 weeks and will end with the final rounds taking place at the UFC Apex Center on March 11 which will also be the PSL’s PPV debut on TBS.

Four different PSL champions will be crowned during the PPV event. The four champions will be from the welterweight, middleweight, light heavyweight and heavyweight divisions.

MMA Journalist of the year Ariel Helwani has stated that the PSL will not last long due to the violent nature of the post and predicts that the PPV numbers will not be impressive as MMA fans are not impressed with the Power Slap League.

Criticism For PSL Continues To Grow

MMA fans continue to post comments on Dana White’s Instagram and UFC posts that promote the PSL and voice their disapproval of the PSL. The idea of having two people slap each other without any protection or ability to defend themselves, does not come across as a sport which is why the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) has taken flak for approving the PSL.

Chris Nowinski, head of the Concussion Legacy Foundation has caused expressed serious concern after one of the PSL competitors Chris Kennedy showed signs immediately of facial damage after being slapped. Nowinski alleges that Kennedy may never be the same after being slapped on the PSL.

White and the PSL have also been criticized for allegedly paying the competitors just $2,000 for being slapped and putting themselves at risk for CTE.
