Colorado State Rams and Colorado Buffaloes met over the weekend in the “Rocky Mountain Showdown” which turned out to be a great game of football that the Buffaloes ended up winning 43-35. The game was marred by a nasty collision between Henry Blackburn from the Rams and Travis Hunter from the Buffaloes.
The clash resulted in Hunter taking a heavy blow to his mid-section that would require him to be hospitalized. Blackburn was later penalized for unnecessary roughness and one would of thought that the matter would be put to an end.
Jay Norvell, head coach of Colorado State has confirmed that Blackburn and his family have received death threats after the collision with Hunter. The threats were reported to the police and both the authorities and the University are offering support to Blackburn.
Hunter has since been released from the hospital and has since given a statement. In a statement Hunter said
It’s football at the end of the day. Stuff like that (the late hit) is going to happen. He (Blackburn) did what he was supposed to do. It’s football. Something bad is going to happen on the field sooner or later. You just got to get up and fight again. That’s what I try to do.
NFL great Deion Sanders who is the head coach at the University of Colorado also came out and condemned the death threats. Sanders said that gets death threats on a weekly basis and deals with it but said no kid should be exposed to death threats and such strong intimidation.
“I forgive [Blackburn], our team’s forgiven him, Travis has forgiven him, let’s move on.”

In a statement, Sanders said
Henry Blackburn is a good player who played a phenomenal game. He made a tremendous hit on Travis on the sideline. You could call it dirty, you could call it, ‘He was just playing the game of football,’ but whatever it was, it does not constitute that he should be receiving death threats.
Sanders went on to say that he would be disappointed if any of their fans were behind the death threats directed at Blackburn.
