India was in a commanding position to win the 5th test against England in Birmingham but they showed a lack of intent and will to win. England put in a stellar effort with both bat and ball and ended up winning by 7 wickets.
India have not been consistent at winning in all three formats of the game under new head coach Rahul Dravid. The performance of the Indian team under Dravid has now come under scrutiny as Indian fans have taken to social media to express their disappointment with Dravid.
Nicknamed ‘The Wall’ when he played for India, Dravid is considered one of the best batters India has ever produced. Dravid was the head coach for the U-19 team and was given the role of head coach in Nov 2021 once Ravi Shastri decided to move on.
India lost the test and ODI series to South Africa in South Africa. Fans expected them to win against South Africa when they toured India but the best they could do was a draw. India did win the 2 match T20 series against Ireland in June but Indian fans don’t count Ireland as a big threat.
The latest disappointment is the lost in the 5th test and fans are calling for the BCCI to replace Dravid as head coach!
Dravid has always been an individual who set high standards and he will definitely not be pleased of how things have turned out so far. However, the head coach has also asked fans to be reasonable with their criticism pointing out to the fact that he has had to work with 6 captains in the last few months, which has made it hard to establish a set pattern and winning routine.
While Dravid is right with his facts (he has had to work with 6 captains in 8 months), fans are not willing to continue to accept India losing home and away series due to these reasons. Dravid’s next test is a 3 match T20 series against England followed by an ODI series. If India ends up losing both these series, Dravid will be under pressure to keep his job!
