Auger-Aliassime came into the European Open full of confidence as he has been on a good run recently. He ended up winning the Firenze Open last week and took that momentum into the European Open where he kept getting better as the tennis tournament progressed.
He faced American Sebastian Korda in the United States who he had played twice in the past and had a 1-1 record. Auger-Aliassime was on top of his game on Sunday as he sent down a total of 7 aces in the match and served up 5 of them in the first set. Korda did not have many answers as Auger-Aliassime dominated the first set 6-3.
Korda did play a lot better in the second set but Auger-Aliassime won the key moments in the game and ended up clinching the second set and the match 6-4. Auger-Aliassime who lives in Montreal was delighted with winning back to back ATP tour titles.
Auger-Aliassime who turned 22 in August said it was really tough for him to put his body through two weeks of non-stop action as he had to go through a number of challenging matches.
Felix Auger-Aliassime’s game has improved tremendously in 2022. Canadian fans started paying attention him attention after he won his first ATP tour title in February when he took down the Rotterdam Open. Prior to winning the Rotterdam Open, Auger-Aliassime had made it to 8 ATP Tour finals but could not win a title.
He did not let it deter him but made adjustments in his game and the results are showing. He has now won 3 out of the last 4 ATP Tour finals that he has played and all three of his wins have been in dominant fashion in straight sets.
Auger-Aliassime is now the second youngest player to be ranked in the ATP top 10 rankings.
