- The 2023 ICC World Cup will run from 05 Oct to 19 Nov in India
- Australia will play at full strength but India will rest key players
India will host Australia for a 3 match ODI series that will start on 22 Sep in Mohali.
The second ODI will take place in Indore on 24 Sep and the final ODI in the series will take place in Rajkot on 27 Sep. All 3 ODI games will be D/N affairs and will be an ideal warm-up series for both teams ahead of the 2023 ICC World Cup.
The 2023 ICC World Cup will take place in India from 05 Oct to 19 Nov. The defending champions are England while hosts India and former champs Australia go in as serious contenders.
Australia are coming off an ODI series loss against South Africa in South Africa and will want to quickly put that behind them. They have named a very strong squad for the India ODI series which will see the return of top fast bowlers Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc. Former captain Steve Smith and all-rounder Glenn Maxwell also make their return to the squad.
This series will be great for Australia as they will use the three ODI’s to get acclimatized to sub-continent conditions ahead of the ODI World Cup. Australia’s biggest challenge will be against India’s spinners and the humid conditions that can make it difficult for the side bowling second.
While Australia will look to play at full strength, India have decided to go the opposite way and rest some of their key players for the first two ODIs in the series. India recently played in the 2023 Asia Cup at full strength and ended up winning the tournament. The selectors decided to rest captain Rohit Sharma and get KL Rahul to captain for the first two ODIs.
Also missing in action for the first two ODIs will be all-rounder Hardik Pandya, Virat Kohli and spinner Kuldeep Yadav. India have brought back veteran spinner Ravi Ashwin along with T20 special Washington Sundar for the ODI’s against Australia. This is a great chance for the likes of Ashwin and Sundar to perform and push for a place in the 2023 ODI World Cup squad.
