India: +160 / Australia: +105
When you play a top test side like Australia, you want all of your best players fit and ready to take the field. India unfortunately will not be at full strength as two of their key players are out injured which was revealed last month when they announced their 15 man squad .
Jasprit Bumrah who is the leader of India’s pace attack has been out of action for a long time now and is not part of the World Test Championship squad. Bumrah has been out with a back injury and underwent surgery in New Zealand in April but is yet to recover.
Attacking wicket-keeper batsman Rishab Pant was involved in a car accident in Dec 2022 and is likely to be out until the end of 2023. India will miss Bumrah and Pant in England as both players are match winners and captain Rohit Sharma would have loved to have had them in the playing XI as their presence would have given India the edge over Australia.
India have also continued to overlook all-rounder Hardik Pandya from their test side which continues to baffle Indian cricket fans as Pandya brings a lot of balance to the side with his aggressive middle-order batting and the ability to bowl well in overseas conditions.
Most of India’s test players are coming off a big 2023 IPL season and need to make an immediate switch from T20 cricket to test cricket which can be difficult. Most of Australia’s test squad have not been a part of the 2023 IPL as they have been preparing for the Ashes and will be in a better frame of mind to play test cricket.
Australia does have a big advantage over India going into the 2023 World Test Championship and should be able to beat India.
