Summary
- India won the 3rd ODI against the West Indies by 119 runs
- A second string Indian side have clinched the series 3-0
- Youngster S Gill awarded player of the series
India did not send a full strength squad to the West Indies to take part in the 3 match ODI series and the 5 match T20 series.
The BCCI decided to rest senior players which included captain Rohit Sharma, former skipper Virat Kohli, spearhead Jasprit Bumrah and wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant who had a wonderful series in England.
The BCCI decided to pack the squad with a number of young players and some fringe players who have done well in the ODI series and helped India whitewash the West Indies 3-0 and gave the new coach Rahul Dravid some much needed praise.
India had a tough opening ODI game against the West Indies, as the hosts fought till the very end and ended up on the losing side by just 3 runs. Stand-in captain Shikhar Dhawan got the man of the match for his 97 from 99 balls and got good support from his new opening partner Shubman Gill who scored 64 from 53 balls.

Fans expected it to be another close encounter in the second ODI and the two sides once again produced a close game that went down to the wire. India got over the line in the last over thanks to some fantastic batting by Axar Patel who scored 64 from 35 balls to claim the man of the match award. Once again, S Gill played a good innings at the top of the order and scored 43 from 49 balls.
The third ODI was a bit of a disappointment as rain interrupted and forced the D/L system to come into play. India ended up winning by 119 runs according to D/L and swept the series 3-0. S Gill played fantastically well and scored 98 runs from 98 balls to win the man of the match and the man of the series award.
The BCCI will be pleased with the performance of their young players who put their hands up and let their performances speak for themselves. S Gill was the best out of the lot but there were others who also did well. Shreyas Iyer scored 54, 63 and 44, Sanju Samson made an impressive 54 while A Patel showed that he can deliver with both bat and ball! Next up for India will be the T20 series against the West Indies, can they repeat their performances.
