Summary
- Jiri Prochazka vs. Glover Teixeira 2 verbally agreed for UFC 282
- UFC yet to confirm if this fight will serve as the Main Event
- Jon Jones vs. Francis Ngannou or Stipe Miocic could be potential Main Event
Czech UFC superstar Jiri Prochazka won the lightheavyweight championship at UFC 275 against 42 year old Glover Teixeira in June 2022.
Glover was winning that fight but in the final minutes of the fifth and final round, Jiri managed to submit him and become the new UFC lightheavyweight champ.
Jiri Prochazka told MMA media after his championship win that he was happy he won the belt but wasn’t happy with his performance. He felt that he got hit too much and did not give his fans the performance he was capable of delivering in the Octagon. UFC fans expected Jiri Prochazka to fight former Polish champ Jan Blachowicz for his first title defence as there were talks that this fight could be one of the biggest UFC fight cards in Europe to bet on.
It looks like Jiri is more interested in getting a rematch with Glover than pushing for a title defence in Europe against Blachowicz. MMA media confirm that both Jiri and Glover have verbally agreed to the rematch but are yet to sign official UFC contracts. As of now, it looks like Jiri Prochazka vs. Glover Teixeira 2 will take place at UFC 282 which will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on December 10.
This should be the Main Event at UFC 282 unless the UFC can put together a heavyweight title or interim title fight.
UFC heavyweight champ Francis Ngannou is yet to confirm if he will be ready to defend his heavyweight belt in December or only in the early part of 2023. The UFC was looking at setting up a Francis Ngannou vs. Jon Jones title fight but if Ngannou isn’t ready, the UFC might be willing to do an interim title fight between former heavyweight champ Stipe Miocic and Jon Jones.
Jon Jones told his fans recently that he was waiting on the UFC to confirm which opponent they want him to fight. Jones who was the former UFC lightheavyweight champ is moving up to heavyweight for the first time in his career and is looking forward to a title shot for his very first outing at heavyweight.
