Summary
- Kevin Durant surprises fans by opting to leave Brooklyn Nets
- Nets GM currently working with Durant to facilitate trade deal
- Which team will Kevin Durant join for the next NBA season?
When Kevin Durant left the Golden State Warriors and joined the Brooklyn Nets in 2019, NBA fans were excited to see what the Nets would accomplish as they had a powerful trio in Durant, Kyrie Irving who is good friends with Durant and James Harden.
The Nets never did have the impact they expected from this set of All-Star players due to a number of reasons. Brooklyn Nets lost Harden to the Philadelphia 76ers and are now set to lose Kevin Durant.
NBA fans were surprised to learn that Kevin Durant no longer wants to play for the Nets. Durant and his business agent Rich Kleiman have put in a direct request to Sean Marks, GM for the Nets asking them to work out a deal that will allow Durant to be traded to another team for the next season.
Durant signed a contract with the Nets and was set to be with the NBA franchise till the 2025-2026 season. He put in his request to be traded just before the official free agency deadline commenced.
Kyrie Irving also had the option of leaving the Nets but decided earlier this week to commit to the Nets for the NBA 2022-2023 season. With Durant now opting to leave, there is a possibility that Irving might change his mind and request to be traded or the Nets could make a decision to trade him along with Irving.
The Nets played poorly last season and finished with a 44-38 season. Their fans were hoping they would get a better performance out of the Nets this season with Durant and Irving being the main driving force. They will now have to wait and see what the Nets do with Durant and who comes into the team as part of the trade deal.
KD is one of the best players in the NBA and just about every franchise will be keen on signing him. However, only few teams will be able to work out a trade deal with the Nets to get Durant on board.
Some of the potential teams that could sign KD include the Miami Heat and Phoenix Suns.
