The Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) issued its fines and suspensions for UFC stars Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov earlier this week. The NSAC decided to suspend McGregor for 6 months and hit him with a $50,000 fine while the Russian fighter got a much harsher penalty with a 9 month suspension and a $500,000 fine.
Khabib Nurmagomedov received a harsher penalty that McGregor due to him starting the ruckus by jumping out of the Octagon during UFC229.
However, his team consisting of Abubakar Nurmagomedov and Zubaira Tukhugov got a tougher penalty as they were suspended for 12 months. All suspensions are retroaction, meaning they start from October 2018.
The NSAC gave Khabib the option of reducing his suspension from 9 to 6 months, provided he was willing to issue a message on anti-bullying to his millions of fans. The Russian fighter has surged in popularity since his win over McGregor and how has more than 13.5 million fans on Instagram.

However it looks like Khabib Nurmagomedov will not be making any anti-bullying message to reduce his suspension. His manager, Ali Abdelaziz stated that Khabib wasn’t very happy with the sentences that his team mates received from the NSAC as he thought they were very harsh with his brothers.
The UFC Lightweight champion has apparently decided to impose his own suspension and has stated that he will not fight for 12 months. He has also stated that he will not fight in Las Vegas again and prefers to make his return in November 2019 at Madison Square Garden.
The UFC will not be happy with Nurmagomedov’s decision as the UFC prefers to make its top fighters fight in Las Vegas.
Conor McGregor on the other hand has responded rather well to the suspension and fine. A $50,000 fine is a lot for most people but not for the Irish MMA star who made more than $100 million last year.
I am thankful for the Nevada athletic commissions fair assessment and handling of the brawl incident.

It was not my intention to land the final blow of the night on my opponent’s blood relative. It’s just how it played out.
I look forward to competing again soon.
Thank you all.
McGregor is expected to return to the Octagon in April and will fight UFC veteran Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone.
