Kryie Irving had to change his stance on not issuing an apology to the Jewish community after the Brooklyn Nets suspended him for 5 games without pay and forced him to make a $500,000 donation to anti-hate charities.
Irving had earlier refused to apologize for tweeting a link to an anti-semantic documentary “Hebrews to Negroes: Wake Up Black America“.
With Irving refusing to apologise and the Brooklyn Nets recently sacked Steve Nash are taking on flak for not disciplining their All-Star, the Nets told Irving he would need to meet 6 conditions before he could re-join the team. One of those conditions was condemning the documentary and issuing an unconditional apology.
Irving took to Instagram soon after to issue an apology to the Jewish community but no one is going to buy into that apology as it came from Irving only after he was suspended.
The last line in his apology ‘I am a seeker of truth and knowledge, and I know who I Am’ is quite cryptic as it sends the message that Irving will hold good to his beliefs and the apology was generated on demand rather than someone who feels sorry for what he has done.
Unconfirmed sources who are close to a number of GMs in the NBA claim that Irving has caused a lot of trouble for himself and it looks like his days in the NBA could be numbered. Irving is yet to meet all 6 conditions put down by the Nets for him to re-join the franchise and a couple of GM’s claim that the Nets have made those conditions difficult possible for him to meet as they may want to part ways with Irving soon.
With Irving not willing to apologize for his anti-semantic post voluntarily, Nike has already confirmed that it has dropped Irving as a sponsor and will not roll out the Kyrie 8 signature shoe.
This is a huge blow for Irving as he will not only be out of pocket for $500,000 but now loses out on a lucrative Nike sponsorship.
