The LA Lakers went all out to secure the services of LeBron James in an effort to turn their fortunes around this season.
That hasn’t happened as the Lakers are in 10th place on the Western Conference points table with an average record of 27 wins and 26 losses.
To LeBron James defense, he did miss 17 consecutive games this season due to injury and that hasn’t helped the Lakers. However, it is pretty clear that the Lakers need to give James more support if they are going to be a serious threat in the NBA next season.
Just as the Lakers made their intention clear last season that they wanted to sign James, this season they are eager to secure the services of Anthony Davis from the New Orleans Pelicans. The Lakers made an offer for Davis where they were willing to trade Rajon Rondo, Michael Beasley, Kyle Kuzma and Lonzo Ball along with a first round draft pick.

However, the Pelicans shot down that offer as they did not believe it was attractive enough for them to trade their 6 time All Star. The Lakers don’t have a lot of time to put together another package as the trade deadline expires on Feb 5.
Reports suggest that LeBron James wasn’t very happy with the Lakers and their initial offer for Davis. Some analysts suggest that James decided to sit out of the Lakers game against the Golden State Warriors on Feb 3 because he wanted to send a message to the team owners that they needed to make a better offer for Davis.
LeBron James is now 34 years old and this is the first season in his illustrious career where he has had to miss so many consecutive games due to an injury. James knows that he needs more help upfront and is eager to get Anthony Davis on the team.
Anthony Davis has made it clear to the Pelicans that he is open to being traded to the LA Lakers as well as the LA Clippers, Milwaukee Bucks and New York Knicks. One team that he is not willing to settle down with is the Boston Celtics. Davis has confirmed that he is willing to sign a long term contract with any of these four teams.
Reports suggest that the Lakers have put together a better package which now includes two first round draft picks along with Rajon Rondo, Michael Beasley, Kyle Kuzma, Lonzo Ball, Lance Stephenson and Brandon Ingram.
