MLB 2019: Boston Red Sox @ Chicago White Sox Preview May 3, 2019 Adrian Sterne https://plus.google.com/u/0/107032931670136448831
Chicago White Sox vs. Boston Red Sox

Both the Boston Red Sox and the Chicago White Sox have 14 wins this year and both are surprising in their own way.

The Red Sox were thought to be among the top teams in all of baseball and a very slow start has thrown in some doubt. They are sitting at 14-18 on the season and in fourth place in the AL East.

The White Sox were supposed to be rebuilding, and while they still are, no one expected a start like this to their season.

While they sit at 14-15 and in third place in the AL Central, they were thought to be at the bottom of the division for most of the season.

The Red Sox are the favourites in this one at -190 and the White Sox sit at +160. The over / under is 8 runs.

Red Sox Look to Climb in Standings

After an awful start that saw the Red Sox start of the season 3-9 they have battled back and sit at 14-18. While they aren’t nearly close to where they expect to be, after a start like that the Red Sox are looking up. They are a very hot and cold team this season especially in the last couple series.

On April 19th they started a series against the Rays which the Red Sox swept. They then split with the Tigers followed by getting swept by the Rays. This past series against the A’s was swept by the Red Sox. Chris Sale is on the mound tonight for Boston. Sale hasn’t been himself this season although he is pitching a little better as of late. This season Sale has a 6.30 ERA and has allowed four or more runs in four of his six starts.

White Sox Look to Continue Streak

The White Sox have been pretty hot over the past week going 5-1 since last Friday. They have not been above .500 yet this season and are hoping that tonight they are able to pull to .500 for just the second time this year. After a bad 4-9 start to the season, the White Sox have been playing really well. They are 10-6 over their last 16 games and 6-4 over their last 10 games.

Reynaldo Lopez takes the mound for the game tonight and like Sale, he hasn’t been good. Holding a 6.03 ERA, Lopez is just 2-3 on the season. Through his first three starts he held a 12.15 ERA after allowing 18 runs in 13.1 innings. Over his past three starts Lopez has gone 6.0 innnings each time and has allowed just 3 runs, including a two hit performance in his last game.

Pitcher Duel on the Way

Even though both starters have ERA’s above six runs, I have a feeling both are going to be pitching really well. Sale has to get back on track sometime and Lopez is plugging along. I love the White Sox at +160 and that is going to be the right call to make tonight.

The White Sox are winning and there is no reason to think they’ll stop. Take the White Sox and the under.
