Anderson ‘The Spider’ Silver is royalty in the mixed martial arts (MMA) world. The Spider competed for years in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and was the UFC middleweight champion for a long period of time. Silva finished his contract with the UFC and retired from the sport of MMA but not from combat sports.
Anderson Silva announced that he would be stepping back into the boxing ring earlier this year to fight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. who was a former WBC middleweight champion.
Silva last fought in a boxing ring in 2005 and went into the fight against Chavez Jr. as a huge betting underdog.
The fight took place over the weekend at Guadalajara, Mexico with a tagline ‘Tribute to the Kings’ as there was some iconic fights on the card. Some of the top stars in combat sports were present at the fight including Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez. The fight between Silva and Chavez Jr. took place at 182 pounds but Chavez Jr. did not make the weight and had to forfeit $100,000 of his purse to The Spider.

The 46 year old Silva showcased some great boxing skills and cardio as he went the distance and complete 8 three minute rounds and won by split decision 75-77, 77-75, 77-75. Silva took a couple of rounds to shake of the rust but he then found his groove and it was the usual Anderson Silva at work, taunting his opponent and putting on a show for the crowd.
Anderson Silva’s win in the boxing ring is a plus for the MMA community who were a bit embarrassed after YouTuber Jake Paul fought MMA star Ben Askren in a boxing match earlier this year and finished him by KO. MMA fans have been begging for a top MMA fighter to get in the ring and teach Jake Paul and his brother Logan Paul a lesson or two.
Logan Paul is scheduled to fight former UFC Welterweight champ Tyron Woodley next but many think Logan Paul is going to win yet again. Anderson Silva has now thrown his hat into the ring and said he is open to fighting the Paul brothers in the future. A fight with Jake or Logan Paul will most likely result in a multi-million dollar payday.
