Tyson Fury is stoking even more discussion among boxing fans and observers with his disclosure that he has been dipping his hands in petrol for five minutes each day in order to toughen up his knuckles versus Deontay Wilder, in their widely anticipated rematch, scheduled to take place on February 22 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The initial bout between the two resulted in a wildly entertaining match that saw Fury out-boxing his opponent, but falling victim to a massive left hand in the final round that left him dazed on the mat for a few seconds, before standing up and holding out until the final bell.
Many observers feel that Fury’s performance should have given him the win on points, but judges saw it differently, resulting in a controversial split-decision draw.
Wilder has remained confident throughout the lead-up to the match. Previous statements made by Wilder mocked Fury’s change of trainers, as well as what he perceived as Fury’s lack of power, while trumpeting his own punching power—noting that Fury had already suffered a concussion during their last fight.
Wilder promised that worse would even happen on their rematch, predicting a knockout that would finally end all debates as to who is the better fighter.

Fury who is also called the “Gypsy King”, is trying to wrest the world title from Wilder, and has revealed a number of tactics to the media, some of which have been out of the ordinary. Fury replaced his long-time former trainer Ben Davison for SugarHill Steward a decision that has been called into question by many, including Wilder himself and has come up with novel ideas to win on February 22.
Fury, in his own statements, shared that he has a strong premonition that the fight would end by Wilder getting knocked out by round 2. His prediction has become a bit more believable in recent days, as Fury has claimed that he will be coming into the ring heavier (270 pounds) than in his previous fights.
A second round knockout was promised by Fury, confident in the tips he acquired from Big Joe Joyce, the bare-knuckle fighter. One of those tips is the dipping of hands in vats of petrol for five minutes a day, the idea being that the noxious fluid will help toughen up Fury’s knuckles.
