Jiri Prochazka and Glover TeixeiraSummary

  • UFC confirms lightheavyweight title fight for UFC 282
  • Jiri Prochazka vs. Glover Teixeira 2 to take place on Dec 10
  • This is likely to be the Main Event unless Jon Jones returned

The UFC had announced earlier that the final pay per view of 2022 will take place on Dec 10 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and also confirmed a number of fights for UFC 282.

However, the company did not confirm the Main Event which as the UFC was looking to make a couple of fights happen before the end of the year.

Jiri Prochazka vs. Glover Teixeira 2

One of the fights that was in the works was the rematch between Jiri Prochazka vs. Glover Teixeira. The first fight took place at UFC 275 when Glover was the lightheavyweight champ. The Brazilian defended his belt for the first time in Singapore when he took on Czech contender Jiri Prochazka and ended up losing by submission by in the final minute of the 5th round.

If Glover had to push the fight to a decision, it is highly likely that he would have ended up winning the fight by decision. This fight is now amongst the contenders to win ‘Fight of the Year’ as it was an amazing showcase of skill, determination and mixed martial arts at its best. There was initially some chatter that new champ Jiri Prochazka would defend his title against former champ Jan Blachowicz in what was being billed as the biggest MMA fight in Europe.

Jiri decided that it was right for him to rematch Glover as he did not feel that he fought his best during their first fight. Glover was only too happy to accept the rematch and the UFC has now confirmed the rematch for UFC 282 but has not confirmed if it will be the co-Main event or the Main Event.

Will Jon Jones Return For UFC 282?

The UFC has been discussing the possibility of an interim heavyweight fight as current champ Francis Ngannou is recovering from surgery and is likely to return only during the first quarter of 2023.

Former lightheavyweight champ Jon Jones has promised to fight at heavyweight and there are talks that he could fight former heavyweight champ Stipe Miocic for the interim title. The UFC should confirm by the end of this month if Jones and Miocic will fight in December.
