The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), the number one MMA promotion in the world has been hosting fight cards every single weekend for the last four months. The UFC was the only global sporting organization in the world to continue to entertain fans even in the midst of the pandemic.
One of the reasons the UFC was able to do this was due to the leadership of UFC President Dana White and his great relationship with Abu Dhabi. The UFC moved to Yas Island – commonly referred to as Fight Island to host multiple fight cards in 2020.
The UFC has now confirmed that it will start 2021 in Fight Island as plans have been made to host multiple fight cards in Abu Dhabi. UFC President Dana White has said in the past that his goal is look to re-create international fight week at Fight Island.

International Fight week usually takes place in July each year for the UFC where multiple fight cards are hosted in Las Vegas. The UFC was unable to pull off international fight week in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic but Dana White is keen on making it happen early on in 2021.
The UFC will start the New Year with an exciting fight card headlined by former UFC featherweight champ Max Holloway who will take on the danger Calvin Kattar. The winner of this fight could very well be in light for the next title fight. Apart from this fight card, the UFC will also host a pay-per-view card and quite possibly another fight card.
White said that the ideal scenario would be to host a fight card on Saturday night, do another fight card mid-week on Wednesday night and finish off international fight week with a final Saturday night card. Holloway vs. Kattar will take place on Jan 16 and UFC 257 will take place on Jan 23, 2021. There is no indication as of now if a Jan 30 fight card will take place.
Fight Island will welcome the return of the “Notorious” Conor McGregor who will take on Dustin Poirier in what could very well be a fight that determines who gets a shot at the UFC lightweight title next.
Dana White has spoken about the possibility of allowing a limited amount of fans to attend UFC 257. White said he will wait a few weeks to see how the COVID-19 situation is before making a final decision on opening up Fight Island to the fans.
