Gilbert Burns who is ranked 5th in the welterweight division has been calling out the 7th ranked Masvidal on social media to fight him in Brazil during UFC 283 which takes place on Jan 21, 2023. Burns claimed that the UFC offered Masvidal a contract to fight Burns on three occasions but Masvidal turned it down.
Now Masvidal has come out and rubbished those claims and called on UFC Chief Business Officer Hunter Campbell to clarify that Masvidal never agreed to any of those bouts because he had to deal with legal issues and did not know when he could fight. Masvidal is facing legal charges after allegedly attacking Colby Covington after their fight which Masvidal lost.
Masvidal said that he was willing to fight Burns but not in Brazil. Masvidal said that he was keen on a UFC fight in the UK and wanted to be a part of the Edwards vs. Usman 3 card which is set to take place in March 2023.
Masvidal had earlier called out the champ Leon Edwards for a title fight but Edwards turned him down reminding him that when he had called him out multiple times, Masvidal turned him down.
Masvidal wants to put himself on that card and be a backup fighter in case something happens to one of the fighters. As of this writing, Gilbert Burns is yet to confirm if he will fight Masvidal in the UK.
