Business is booming for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), the biggest mixed martial arts promotion in the world.
UFC236 in Atlanta turned out to be a barn burner for the promotion as the co-main event and main event turned into two of the best fights that MMA fans have witnessed.
Israel ‘The Last Stylebender’ Adesanya pulled of a superb win over Kelvin Gastelum in the co-main event at UFC236 to become the interim middleweight champion and book himself a title unification fight against current champion Robert Whittaker.
UFC President Dana White confirmed immediately after the fight that he had called his Australian office and told them to find and book the biggest stadium they can as the Whittaker vs. Adesanya match needs to take place in Australia. White is confident that they can sell out over 50,000 seats and hence they will look to host the fight in an outdoor stadium.
Whittaker was born in New Zealand but now lives in Australia whereas Adesanya was born in Nigeria but now lives in New Zealand. Stylebender has already taken cracks at Whittaker calling him a fake Kiwi and throwing shade at him for only defending his title twice in the last two years. Whittaker who is a rather quiet and humble fighter decided to respond to Adesanya in a recent interview.

Robert Whittaker said
If I’m a fake New Zealander, then what is he? He doesn’t like getting hit and he’s very, very hittable. I hit hard. If he can weather the storm and take my shots and survive five rounds like he did with Gastelum, then congratulations to him, he’ll get the win. But I don’t think he’s going to. I’m a better fighter than Gastelum. I hit harder, I’m faster and I come with a new level of intensity he’s not used to
This fight will most likely take place in September although Adesanya says he wants more time to prepare for Whittaker. Whittaker has said he is keen to have the fight in Sydney, where he currently lives. The UFC will stack the Aussie card as there are now a number of exciting fighters in the UFC.
Some of the Aussie and New Zealand fighters who could feature on that card include Tai Tuivasa, Tyson Pedro, Dan Hooker and Megan Anderson
